Background and objectives: One of the topics that human beings are thinking about is "self" and "self" in the world. In spite of the theoretical and research information about "self," the definition of this term is not so simple; therefore, the "self" examination is under different titles, such as self-concept, self-expression, self-respect, self-improvement, self-monitoring, etc. done. Meanwhile, the notion of self-esteem is the most fundamental concept that underlies the main field of research. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of anger rumination in the relationship between self-consciousness and self-esteem.
Materials and Methods: This research, based on its purpose, is of fundamental type and type of correlation research. The statistical population consisted of students of Islamic Azad University of Shiraz in 1397. The sample size was 320 students of Islamic Azad University of Shiraz who were selected using available sampling method. Conscious informed consent was obtained from the target community and preliminary explanations were given about the purpose of the research and how to cooperate and complete the tools with the students. Subsequently, questionnaires were provided to them. The questionnaires included self-awareness scale, anger rumble scale and Rosenberg self-esteem scale. The data were analyzed using multiple regression-hierarchical method and data analysis was performed using SPSS software version 24.
Results: Using stepwise regression analysis, self-esteem variables as dependent variable and self-consciousness variable as independent variable were entered into the regression equation. The results showed that the relationships between variables were linear (P = 0.00, F= 18.69). In order to investigate the role of rumination mediation in the relationship between self-consciousness and self-esteem, stepwise regression analysis was used. Results showed that the relationships between self-consciousness and ruminant variables were linear and self-respect (P = 0.001, F =20.61). Also, with regard to the level of significance in the second order, it can be seen that the rumination of anger can predict its self-esteem. Therefore, rumination has a complete mediator role in the relationship between self-consciousness and self-respect.
Conclusion: The present study aimed to determine the role of rumination mediation in the relationship between self-consciousness and self-esteem. The proposed model of the research was based on the assumption that the self-conscious affection with anger rush led to a change in the level of self-esteem. The results of the research showed that rumination of anger plays a mediating role in the relationship between self-consciousness and self-esteem. The result is that the rumination of anger is predictive of self-esteem. Regarding the fact that self-consciousness with mediation of rumination of anger has a predictive role in its self-respect, it is suggested to propose ways to reduce the experiences of self-consciousness (shame and sin) as well as anger rumble to promote self-esteem (self-esteem).
