Background and Objective: One of the disorders that the World Health Organization considers the main cause of disability is obsessive-compulsive disorder. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of exposure therapy and response prevention on rumination and anxiety in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental, post-test, post-test, control group study. The study population consisted of all men and women with obsessive-compulsive disorder referring to Birjand clinics and counseling centers during the second half of the year 2019. Were replaced. Exposure and response prevention intervention was performed in 8 sessions of 90 minutes. Data were collected by completing the Nolan Huxma and Maru (1991) and Levybund and Levybund Anxiety Scale (1995) questionnaires before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis of covariance.
Results: After intervention, rumination and anxiety scores were significantly decreased in the experimental group compared to the control group (p <0.001).
Conclusion: It seems that exposure therapy and response prevention are effective in reducing rumination and anxiety in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is recommended that this treatment be used as a complementary treatment in other psychosomatic diseases.
