Background & Objective:Intellectual disability, which is characterized by a defect in mental ability, is one of the neurodevelopmental disorders. Children with intellectual disabilities have many problems for themselves and their families. On the other hand, mothers of children with intellectual disabilities experience more problems than other members of their families. Different parts of these mothers' lives can be affected by the birth of a disabled child. Quality of life, which includes people's perceptions of their living conditions with regard to their goals, expectations, standards and interests in the context of the culture and value system in which they live, including attitudes toward physical health, mental and level of independence, social relationships, and attachments. Personality and interaction with environmental conditions is one of the dimensions that is affected by the birth of children with intellectual disability. One of the components that can affect the quality of life of these mothers is mindfulness. Mindfulness is defined as feeling un judged and balanced with awareness as well as a way of paying attention to the present. Disability in mindfulness skills will increase the life of mothers of children with IQs by increasing stress, decreasing levels of psychological well-being and thus reducing quality of life. The existence of meta-cognitive thoughts, also called passive repetitive thoughts focused on the causes and consequences of symptoms, also reduces the quality of life of these mothers. Various factors can affect the relationship between mindfulness and metacognitive beliefs with quality of life. Problem solving is one of the variables in this regard. Problem is defined as a cognitive-behavioral process by which individuals identify and identify effective strategies to deal with problematic situations in life. Decreasing mindfulness by increasing rumination and negative beliefs reduces one's ability to solve problems and reduces one's performance in problem solving skills. In fact, the decline of mindfulness with the increase of metacognitive beliefs and emotions, negative emotions and emotions reduces the ability of problem solving skills that will lead to psychological problems that will eventually lead to an improved quality of life. Failure to pay attention to mothers of children with intellectual disabilities can lead to undesirable outcomes. Decreased quality of life in these mothers, in addition to causing many difficulties in caring for a disabled child, can have adverse effects on many aspects of their lives. So The purpose of this study was to model the structural equations of the relationship between metacognition, mindfulness, problem solving and quality of life of mothers with Intellectual disability children.
Methods: This was a correlational study. The population of the study included all mothers of children with intellectual disability who were covered by the welfare offices of Khuzestan province centers. Using simple random sampling method, 200 of them were selected as the sample. Participants responded to Wells (1997) metacognitive beliefs questionnaires, Freibog's mindfulness questionnaires (2006), Hepner and Patterson's (1982) problem, and World Health Organization quality of life (1996). The proposed model was evaluated using structural equation modeling.
Results: The results showed that the direct effect of metacognition, mindfulness and problem solving on the quality of life of mothers with children with IQ was significant (p <0.001). Also, the indirect effect of metacognition and mindfulness with problem-mediated mediation on the quality of life of mothers of children with intellectual disability had a significant effect (P <0.001).
Conclusion: In general, the findings of this study confirm the relationship between metacognition and mindfulness with quality of life with mediating role in problem solving in mothers of children with intellectual disability.
