Background and purpose: Old age is one of the sensitive periods of life in which various aspects of a person's life, including physical, cognitive, emotional and psychological, undergo changes. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effect of positive mindfulness training on health resilience and self-compassion of the elderly.
Research method: The research method was semi-experimental with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. In 2022, 50 qualified volunteers were included in the study from among the elderly residents of the nursing homes of the 5th district of Tehran and were randomly divided into two groups (25 people) for the test and control. The research tools in the pre-test and post-test for both groups were the health tenacity inventory (Gibhardt, 2001) and the self-compassion scale (Neff, 2016). Positive mindfulness intervention was conducted in 8 sessions of 90 minutes for the experimental group; But for the control group, no intervention was applied. The research findings were analyzed using SPSS version 19 software and covariance analysis. The significance level of the tests was 0.05.
Findings: The results of covariance analysis for both variables of health tenacity and self-compassion revealed that after removing the pre-test effect, the mean post-test scores of the two groups had a statistically significant difference (p<0.001).
Conclusion: This study shows that positive mindfulness training can be used for the elderly and is effective in increasing health resilience and self-compassion.
