Background & Objective: Divorce is the process of terminating a marriage or marital bond. Divorce usually involves the annulment or reorganization of the legal duties and responsibilities of marriage, resulting in the dissolution of the marital bond between a married couple governed by the law of a particular country or state. Divorce leads to various psychological damages and consequences for couples and their children. One of the most important family injuries is divorce; But the official divorce statistics do not fully show the extent of spouses' failure in married life; Because besides that, a larger number is dedicated to emotional divorces. Divorce is the separation of couples in the legal system, which is very common among families today, and it can continue to grow in the future, and sociologists and psychologists should investigate the causes of marriage failure in order to reduce divorce among couples. They work hard. Divorce in the current modern world shows a high prevalence in various societies, and then it causes many psychological problems to societies, couples and their children. Therefore, studying and researching the psychological and sociological components in the tendency of couples to divorce should be prioritized by politicians in the family field. On the other hand, the trend towards virtual space in society and among spouses has created many problems for them in terms of intimacy and emotional closeness. By examining the researches that have been conducted until now, no research has investigated the relationship between dependence on virtual space and emotion regulation in divorce applicants. Therefore, this research was conducted with the aim of investigating the relationship between dependence on virtual space and emotion regulation in divorce applicants.
Methods: The current research was of correlation analysis type. The statistical population of this research included all married people applying for divorce who referred to counseling and psychological centers in Sirjan city in 1402, whose number was 170, and 132 people were selected and included in the research through available sampling method. The scores of the virtual space dependence variable were measured by the virtual space dependence questionnaire (Khwaja Ahmadi et al., 1995) and the emotional regulation variable was measured by the cognitive-emotional regulation questionnaire (Granfsky, 2001). Data analysis was done using Pearson's correlation coefficient test. The significance level of the tests was 0.05.
Results:  Data analysis showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between dependence on virtual space and emotion regulation in divorce applicants (P<0.001 and r=-0.274).
Conclusion: In explaining the results of this research, it can be said that like all other types of addiction, addiction to virtual space is also associated with symptoms such as anxiety, depression, mood swings, restlessness, and obsessive thoughts or fantasies about the Internet. Today, the Internet is a way to facilitate the creation of connections between people around the world and faster access to information. However, this technology has made people spend a lot of time on it, so that it becomes the center of their lives and affects their lives. The centrality of the Internet in life has caused the disorder of computer addiction. Computer addiction is a behavioral addiction in which a person uses and abuses the Internet as an inappropriate way to cope with the pressures of life. Emotion regulation refers to the process by which people regulate their emotions and modify their behavior to achieve goals, adapt to the context, or promote their well-being. Understanding the relationship between emotion regulation in the context of divorce and stress has been described and appears to be related to emotion dysregulation. In other words, it seems that people who are more able to regulate emotions cope better with the stress of divorce, suffer from lower levels of symptoms and have better relationships after divorce. The world has imposed. For example, anxiety and depression have greatly increased and also caused an increase in suicide. The use of new technologies has added to many psychological risk factors, as their use has been linked to isolation, depression and suicide. Also, problems of emotional regulation and stress have been reported in people with addiction to cyberspace. In stressful situations such as divorce, emotional regulation plays an important factor for effective coping, because this situation requires understanding people's thoughts, behaviors, emotional reactions and social interactions, and emotional regulation problems caused by dependence on virtual space have a great impact on the tendency People have to divorce. The results of the present study showed that there is a negative and significant relationship between dependence on virtual space and emotion regulation in divorce applicants. In other words, the greater the dependence on cyberspace, the more emotional regulation problems in divorce applicants. Therefore, it is recommended that in order to reduce problems related to emotion regulation, dependence on virtual space in divorce applicants should be reduced.
