Abstract
Background  & Objective: Music influences the temporal and parietal lobes as well as memory and the human senses. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Dalkoroz and Orff Music Teaching Method on the reading performance of dyslexic students.
Methods: This is a two group pretest-post quasi-experimental research. The population of the study consisted of all first and second grade dyslexic students Mashhad-Iran in the school year 2014-2015. Convenience sampling was used to recruit 24 participants. The participants were assigned to control and experimental group randomly in equal numbers. The experimental group received 22 sessions each lasting for 30-45 minutes of Dalkoroz and Orff Music Teaching Method. The research instruments were NAMA reading test which includes ten subscales. T-test was utilized to determine if any significant differences existed between the control and experimental group.
Results: The results confirmed the superiority of the students in the control group in reading ability after the treatment (p=0.004, F=10.65).
Conclusion: The results suggest the effectiveness of Dalkoroz and Orff Music Teaching Method on the reading performance of dyslexic students.
