Abstract

Background and purpose: the damage of perfectionism in obsessive personality in the era of covid-19 needs psychological treatments. The aim of the research was the effectiveness of emotion-oriented schema therapy and compassion-based acceptance and commitment on the perfectionism of nurses with obsessive-compulsive personality traits working in the Corona ward. This research responds to the effect of acceptance and commitment based on compassion and emotion-oriented schema therapy on the perfectionism of nurses, and until now no research has been done in the field of emotion-oriented schema therapy on perfectionism, considering the combination of emotion-oriented schema therapy and meta-diagnosis Being perfectionism, this research seems necessary, and also due to the similar diagnostic elements in the two treatments of acceptance and commitment based on compassion and emotional schemas, no comparison has been made in these two treatments.
Research method: This was a semi-experimental study with a pre-test-post-test-follow-up design with a control group. The statistical population was the nurses working in the corona department of the social security hospitals of Karaj and Tehran from 2021 -2022, from which a sample of 40 nurses was selected using the available sampling method from Lavasani and Alborz hospitals who met the criteria for inclusion in the study. were randomly assigned to two experimental groups and one control group. For 10 sessions of 120 minutes, the experimental groups underwent emotion-oriented schema therapy based on Leahy's program (2013) and compassion-based acceptance and commitment based on Tirch et al.'s (2011) program. The data were analyzed by repeated measurement of variance. Also, the significance level of the tests was considered 0.05.
In this research, the personality questionnaire of the fifth statistical and diagnostic manual of mental disorders by Krueger et al. in 2012 was used. This questionnaire was created to measure the dimensionality of personality disorders. A 220-item tool that identifies 25 personality traits based on a dimensional model has been used. In Krueger et al.'s study, the alpha coefficient obtained for domains (0.78) for the domain of conflict control is up to (0.96). was oscillating for dissociation. Also, in Amini's research, there was a range between (0.71) for pessimism and (0.94) for psychopathy. In the present study, Cronbach's alpha for obsessive-compulsive personality components was as follows: perfectionism (0.83), persistence (0.87), intimacy avoidance (0.78), limited affect (0.88) and the total questionnaire ( 0.90). Also, Besharat's multi-dimensional perfectionism questionnaire was used. This questionnaire was first made in 1991 by Hewitt and Felt, and Besharat (2006) modeled this style and standardized the Iranian version of this questionnaire. There are 30 items in this questionnaire. This scale measures the three dimensions of self-oriented perfectionism, other-oriented perfectionism, and community-oriented perfectionism. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated under self-centered, other-centered, and community-centered scales, respectively, 0.90, 0.91, and 0.81, which is a sign of the internal consistency of the scale. The correlation coefficients between the scores of 78 subjects were calculated on two occasions with an interval of two to four weeks to measure the retest validity. These coefficients were significant for self-directed, other-oriented and community-oriented (0.85), (0.79) and (0.84), respectively. The content validity of the multidimensional perfectionism scale was verified and the concurrent validity of the Tehran multidimensional perfectionism scale was calculated through the simultaneous implementation of the interpersonal problems scale, and this scale has good concurrent validity.
Findings: Repeated measurement variance analysis and Benferroni's post hoc test showed that the mean components of self-oriented perfectionism and community-oriented perfectionism in the two groups of emotion-oriented schema therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy based on compassion therapy did not have a significant difference; However, there was a significant difference between the acceptance and commitment treatment group based on compassion and the control group in self-oriented perfectionism in the post-test stage (p<0.001), follow-up (P=0.004) and community-oriented perfectionism in the post-test (p=0.008) and follow-up (P=0.015). Also, the emotion-oriented schema therapy group showed a significant difference with the control group in self-oriented perfectionism in the post-test (p=0.003), follow-up (p=0.031) and community-oriented perfectionism in the post-test (p=0.036), but the effect of this intervention in the follow-up phase on community-oriented perfectionism was not significant.
Conclusion: The results of the study indicated the similar effect of compassion-based acceptance and commitment therapy and emotion-oriented schema therapy in the field of perfectionism of nurses, considering the similarity of these two treatments in the field of communication with the present, education in the field of emotion and their deficiency in obsessive personality , they can be used as a complementary treatment in obsessive personality.
Keywords: Acceptance and commitment therapy, emotion-oriented schema therapy, perfectionism, nurse, obsession-compulsive.
