Objective: What keeps people's mental and physical balancing is logical and correct coping with stressful stimuli. In severe cases with inability to cope with stress, the possibility to occurring risky behaviors can be considerably increased. The present study aimed to compare different styles of copying with stress and risk-taking in patients with AIDS and healthy individuals.

Methods: In a research study, 50 patients aged 20 to 45 years with AIDS referred to Valfajr health center in Tehran in 2013 were assessed. Also, 50 healthy individuals considered as the control. To evaluate the coping stress styles, a specific questionnaire developed by Parker and Endler and for assessing the risk-taking, the questionnaire for risk-taking was used,  and data analysed by Anova Test and T-Test.

Results: The results showed that there was Significant difference copying styles and risk-taking behaviors between two groups people with HIV and healthy individuals. There was significant difference in all of Subscales coping styles (problem oriented coping , excitement oriented coping ,  avoidant coping and attention handling ) but there was no significant difference found in social entertainment. There was significant difference in the rate of risk taking two groups.

Conclusion: People having HIV use emotional and avoidance- coping in stressful situation more than normal people, and also have more risk than normal people in their life.
