زمینه و هدف: تحقیقات مختلف نشان می‌دهد کودکان کم‌شنوا در خواندن با مشکلاتی روبه‌رو هستند. هدف این پژوهش بررسی اثربخشی وسایل کمک شنیداری شامل پروتز کاشت حلزون و سمعک بر توانایی خواندن این کودکان است.
روش بررسی: پژوهش حاضر تحلیلی و به‌شیوه‌ٔ مورد‌شاهدی بود. در این مطالعه ۶۳ کودک فارسی‌‌زبان پایهٔ اول دبستان (۲۱ کودک کاشت حلزون و ۲۱ کودک کاربر سمعک و ۲۱ کودک شنوای طبیعی) در شهر تهران شرکت کردند. برای ابزار سنجش، ده خرده‌آزمون از آزمون خواندن نما استفاده شد.
یافته‌ها: میانگین نمرات خواندن در کودکان شنوای طبیعی درمقایسه با کودکان کم‌شنوای شدید تا عمیق دارای کاشت حلزون و کاربر سمعک به‌‌طور معناداری بیشتر بود (۰٫۰۱>p)؛ اما تفاوت معناداری در میانگین نمرات خواندن بین کودکان کم‌شنوای شدید تا عمیق دارای کاشت حلزون و کاربر سمعک دیده نشد.
نتیجه‌گیری: باتوجه به یافته‌ها، پروتز کاشت حلزون درمقایسه با سمعک برای کسب مهارت در خواندن مؤثرتر نیست. برای بررسی تأثیر وسایل کمک شنیداری بر مهارت خواندن نیاز است فاکتورهای مهم دیگر درنظر گرفته شود.
