Background and Aim: The concept of psychological well-being, as an approach that has been posited by psychologists in recent years, emphasizes on the positive characteristics and development of individual abilities and in fact implies positive mental health. The purpose of the present study was to develop a structural model of psychological well-being based on optimism, positivity, and emotional regulation mediation.
Methods: This research was a descriptive survey. The study population consisted of postgraduate students (Masters and PhD) in Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Islamic Azad University, Science and Research Branch of Tehran. 358 of them participated in the study. SPSS and AMOS softwares were used to analyze the data.
Results: The results showed that optimism has a positive and significant effect on emotional adjustment and psychological well-being (P <0.001). Positive thinking had a positive and significant effect on emotional adjustment and psychological well-being (P <0.001). The effect of emotional adjustment on psychological well-being was positive and significant (P <0.001).
Conclusion: Optimism through emotional regulation has a positive and significant indirect effect on psychological well-being. Positive thinking through emotional regulation has a positive and significant indirect effect on psychological well-being.
