Background and purpose: The interaction of energy in the environment is defined as a scientific view in Feng Shui, and this was derived from philosophy in China. Feng Shui is the philosophy of arranging and placing buildings and elements in an environment. It aims to realize physical environments that encourage well-being through the use of flowing energy. Environmental psychology is a scientific discipline that studies how to design environments that can promote mental health in the environment and by meeting the needs of its users, reduce their stress and facilitate their activities in order to improve their well-being. This article has tried to review the basic principles and schools of thought of environmental psychology and feng shui to compare these two disciplines, with special reference to two aspects of the psychological effects of the physical environment: restorative and control.
Tools and methods: The current research strategy is logical reasoning strategy. It is a descriptive-analytical research method that uses the tactic of comparative comparison to advance the research stages. The theoretical framework of the research is a combination of Feng Shui theory and environmental psychology. Then, in the second stage, these two issues will be investigated on reducing stress and increasing the mental health of the environment.
Findings: The application of feng shui concepts has been made in creating a pleasant atmosphere and balance between the natural and human environment, and feng shui concepts emphasize the balance and harmony of physical forms and spatial arrangement. In this way, these elements can reduce or increase a certain type of energy. Achieving balance between different energies is also possible. If feng shui is used properly, it helps to balance the flow of energy in the environment and provides the possibility of creating an environment with maximum energy, health and harmony.
Conclusion: The results of the research show that through the two principles of restoration and control in feng shui, mental health can be created in the environment and thereby reduce people's stress levels.
