Background & Objectives: The tendency to divorce leads to the collapse of the family as one of the most fundamental structures of society, The consequences of divorce can lead to a variety of psychological, emotional, and physical disorders in various individual and social dimensions. Divorced people are more prone to death due to their unhealthy lifestyle. Also, this phenomenon increases mental disorders or accelerates relapse among people with previous diagnoses. Therefore, it seems vital to study the underlying factors of this social problem to control it. So, this study aims to predict the tendency to divorce among couples who are applicants for divorce in Shiraz City based on the study of variables such as marital disaffection, differentiation of self, sexual satisfaction, and awareness.
Methods: The research method applied in this study is descriptive-correlational which was analyzed by regression. The study population is all couples applying for divorce referred to the decision system (Divorce Reduction Office) in 2021. Then 213 couples (426 people) were selected as a sample by the available sampling method. Also, the data collection instrument was a questionnaire which covers variables such as tendency to divorce Scale (DTS) with Cronbach's alpha of 0.88, Marital disaffection Scale (MDS) with Cronbach's alpha of 0.97, Differentiation Of Self Scale (DSI-SF) with Cronbach's alpha of 0.78, Sexual Satisfaction Scale (ISS) with Cronbach's alpha of 0.93, and Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) with Cronbach's alpha of 0.78. The gathered data was analyzed at two levels descriptive (mean and standard deviation) and inferential (correlation test, linear simple regression analysis, and stepwise regression analysis) by applying the SPSS-26 software.
Result: The results suggested that all four predictor variables marital disaffection (p<0/001), differentiation of self (p<0/001), sexual satisfaction (p<0/001) and Mindfulness (p<0/001) contribute to the prediction of divorce, In the linear regression equation, it was observed that the variable of marital disaffection positively and significantly (β=0.49), differentiation of self negatively and significantly ( β=-0.19 ), sexual satisfaction negatively and significantly (β=-0.34) and mindfulness negatively and significantly (β=-0.33) able to predict the tendency to divorce. It was also observed in the step-by-step regression equation that the highest predictive ability was related to marital disaffection, sexual satisfaction, mindfulness, and differentiation of self variables respectively. The four predictive variables of the research jointly predict 31% of the variance of the tendency to divorce
Conclusion: In summary, the results indicate the importance of the variables of marital disaffection, sexual satisfaction, awareness, and differentiation of self in the tendency of couples to divorce. Therefore, these findings can be used in the couple's treatment processes and reduce the divorce rates.
