Objective: The mother as the main caregiver of the epileptic child in the family, confront with a high level of tensions and pressures. Hence, the employment of useful interventions in the enhancement of their mental health is of crucial importance. Therefore, the present research aims to investigate the effectiveness of counseling based on the improvement of the life quality on the promotion of psychological well-being in mothers of children with epilepsy.

Methods: The present research employed a semi-experimental method with pretest-posttest and control group design. The statistical population included all the epileptic children’s mothers which 30 individuals were selected through convenience sampling, who out of which 20 mothers who had a lower score than average on psychological well-being were screened and randomly assigned into the two experimental and control groups. The experimental group underwent ten 120-minute sessions of counseling based on the improvement of life quality while the control group didn’t receive any interventions. Ryff’s psychological well-being scale was used to collect the data.

Results: The data were analyzed using one-way covariance test and the results indicated that, counseling based on the improvement of the quality of life has a significant effect on the enhancement of psychological well-being in mothers of children with epilepsy (p=0.001).

Conclusion: Counseling based on the improvement of the quality of life can be used as an appropriate intervention to enhance psychological health in mothers of children with epilepsy.
