Background and aim:

Stuttering is a multifaceted disorder that affects motor control, language performance and communication attitude. It seems that investigating the relationship between overt (stuttering severity) and cover (communication attitude) features of stuttering is necessary. Subjective Scales are the tools that study a disorder from the perspective view of a person who has that condition. Subjective stuttering scale (SSS) covers three important aspects of the disorder including its severity, avoidance behaviors and locus of control and provides aus with some information about the need for further detailed assessment of different aspects of stuttering.Stuttering is a multidimensional disorder that occurs in the natural course of speech, which involves both motor control and linguistic function and typically entails behavioral, emotional and attitudinal changes. When a stutter is referred to a speech and language pathologist, appropriate diagnosis and treatment is performed after necessary evaluations. The overall goals of the therapist in the assessment are to diagnose the disorder, describe the characteristics, determine the severity of the disorder, identify the dependent variables, determine the prognosis and determine the design of the community therapy. One of the most common and most comprehensive ways of communicating in humans is through speech. Speech is complicated both in the learning process and in the implementation stages and therefore is subject to many disorders. One of these disorders is stuttering. The prevalence of this disorder is estimated to be 1% in adults and is more prevalent in men than in women. The purpose of this study is to The Relationship between Individual Experience of Stuttering and .Stuttering in Adult Girls

Materials and methods:

The method of this descriptive study was correlation. The statistical population of this study was 120 stutterers of speech therapy clinics in Isfahan during the period from April to June 2017, from which 40 adult girls aged 18-30 years were sampled in And after obtaining written consent, they were evaluated by a comprehensive OASES Patient Experience Assessment Questionnaire (Bijan Shafiee et al., 2011) and a Stress Exercise Inventory (SSI-3) (Farabi, 2013).Spearman correlation coefficient was used to test the relationship between stuttering severity and communication attitude and Mann-Whitney non-parametric test between history of stuttering and stuttering and communication attitudes.

Results: The results showed that there was a significant negative correlation between age and individual attitude and history of stuttering (P <0.001). Also, there was a significant correlation between age and quality of life and total score of OASES-A questionnaire. There was no statistically significant difference between the severity of stuttering and the individual's attitude (P = 0.140, r = 0.161).

Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, there was no significant difference between the severity of stuttering and communication attitudes. On the other hand, in patients with a history of treatment, the severity of stuttering has decreased, but recent personal attitudes, it is suggested that the aspect of individual attitudes in treatment be considered. According to the results of this article, evaluation of attitude is one of the important steps in the process of stuttering, which requires attention of speech and language pathologists in this regard.
