Background & Objective: Patients with myocardial infarction experience trauma. This physical damage accumulates and consolidates anxiety and negative death-related thoughts in the patient's memory, leads to changes in their thinking and cognition process, and provides grounds for memory failure and cognitive deficits. . Studies have shown that Patients with myocardial infarction experience cognitive impairment. Strengthening active memory can play an essential role in improving the quality of life, adaptation and coping of myocardial infarction patients with stressful conditions in difficult conditions, reducing the probability of subsequent myocardial attacks, accelerating the return to work and strengthening mental health, since There has been little research on strengthening the active memory of this group, and the challenge of desensitization with eye movements and reprocessing, which is a cognitive method, is able to strengthen cognitive functions was a challenging stimulus. So, this study was conducted to investigate the effect of the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) method on the active memory of the patients with myocardial infarction
Methods: This clinical trial was conducted in 2021-2022. Using convenience sampling method, Sampling started after obtaining the code of ethics from Yasuj Islamic Azad University Ethics Committee and registration in the Clinical Trial Center of Iran. 60 patients with myocardial infarction who were eligible volunteers selected from the medical centers of Yasuj city, were included in the study , and randomly selected and divided equally into two groups of intervention and control using random block allocation. For data collection, the questionnaire of demographic information and the activing Memory Scale ( Wechsler, 1945 ) were used. Wechsler reported test reliability coefficients from 0.41 to 0.90 with an average value of 0.74 in subtests. First. the pre-test was conducted for both groups; then, the EMDR method was implemented for the intervention group during six treatment sessions; and finally, the post-test was conducted for both groups. the eye movement desensitization and reprocessing method was performed in eight steps based on Shapiro's standard protocol . The patients of the control group received only the usual medical care and no therapeutic intervention was done by the researcher. The Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing method was performed in the consultation room of the cardiac department and in the therapeutic and educational environment of the hospital and counseling centers with the consultation and coordination of the treatment group of the researcher and consultant cardiologist.
Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics methods (mean, standard deviation, table, graph) and inferential statistics of univariate and multi variate Covariance – ANCOVA in SPSS software version 21 at a significance level of 0.05.

Results: Most of the patients were male and were in the age range of 51 to 60 years.
According to the obtained results, all the presuppositions necessary to perform multivariate covariance analysis for active memory variables and its components were fulfilled. After removing the effect of the pre-test, there was a significant difference in the active memory variable in the post-test (p<0.001). <0.001)). The analysis of each of the dependent variables (direct memory and reverse memory) alone showed that after the pre-test effect, there is a significant difference in the post-test of these two variables, and the comparison of the averages showed that the average of the direct memory variables (P<0.001) 001) and reverse memory (P<0.001) was significantly higher in the experimental group than the control group
Conclusion: Based on the findings of the study, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing treatment method effectively strengthen and enhance active memory components. This method can be used as a standard and effective therapeutic intervention in strengthening the working memory of heart attack patients. It is suggested that this study be conducted in a larger sample size and that sampling be done by random method
