A person's level of self-awareness plays an important role in getting rid of the feeling of loneliness and psychological disorders, on which cognitive therapy of mindfulness can be effective. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the effectiveness of cognitive therapy based on mindfulness on the level of self-actualization, loneliness, and suicidal tendencies of homeless male adolescents.
Research method: The current research method was semi-experimental (pre-test-post-test design with a control group). The statistical population included all 213 homeless male adolescents, random sampling method was used to select the research sample. And the number of 30 qualified volunteers were placed in two experimental and control groups (15 people in each group). After the pre-test, mindfulness interventions were conducted based on the bibliographic guide of mindfulness-based therapy, Segal et al. (2018), in ten 60-minute sessions and at the end of the post-test sessions. . Self-actualization questionnaire (Ismail Khani et al., 1380), feeling of loneliness (Russell et al., 1980) and suicidal tendency (Beck, 1991) were used to collect data. The data were analyzed using spss22 software and variance analysis 0.05 significance were analyzed.
Findings: The results showed that there was no significant difference between the average post-test scores of the control and experimental groups in the variable of self-actualization. However, the average scores of the variables of loneliness and suicidal tendency were (p = 0.008) and (p < 0.001) in the post-test compared to the pre-test, there was a decrease, which indicated the effectiveness of the mindfulness intervention on feelings of loneliness and suicidal tendencies..
Conclusion: Based on the findings, the cognitive therapy training program based on mindfulness, despite not being effective in self-actualization, can be effective in treating and reducing the feeling of loneliness and suicidal tendencies in people.
