Objective: Hyperactivity in children is very common and faces many problems. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the effect of play therapy based on the parent-child relationship on the level of self-confidence and aggression of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
Methods: The research method was semi-experimental with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. The statistical population of the present study consisted of all the mothers of students with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder in the first grade of elementary school in Hamadan city. 30 people were selected from the mentioned statistical population and randomly assigned to two groups of 15 people, test and control. The experimental group underwent ten sixty-minute sessions of play therapy sessions based on the parent-child relationship, but this training was not implemented for the control group. The research tools included the play therapy protocol based on Landerth and Bratton (2006) and two standard scales of Eysenck's self-confidence (1996) and aggression scale of Bass and Perry (1992) were used to collect the data, analysis of covariance was used.
Results: The result showed that play therapy based on parent-child relationship was significantly effective on the level of self-confidence and aggression of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and in the experimental group, it caused a significant increase in self-confidence and a significant decrease in aggression.
Conclusion: According to results of this study puppet play therapy based on the parent-child relationship recommended as a good way to improve the level of self-confidence and aggression of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder
