Background & Objective: Family health is of paramount importance and women play a significant role as one of the pillars of the family in this health. In fact, women are at greater risk of developing mental disorders than men. Mental health of women includes their physical, social, cultural, emotional and spiritual well-being, influenced by physiological, social, economic and family factors and is one of the most important factors in the progress of the foundation of the family. Since improving the physical and mental health of women leads to mental health of children, it is important to have a mental health of women in order to have a healthy and creative generation. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the schema therapy on the hope & quality of life & psychological well-being of Housewives in Tehran.
Methods and Materials: The research was experimental with pretest-posttest design with control group. The statistical population of this study was all female housewives in district 3 of Tehran, among which 50 cases were selected non-randomly-targeted and randomly divided into two groups of 25 experimental and control groups. The research tool was Life expectancy (1991), Quality of Life (1996) and Psychological Well-being (1989). The psychological well-being scale has 18 questions and 6 dimensions. Score is Likert. The reliability of this scale using the Cronbach's alpha in 6 dimensions, self-acceptance, dominate of surroundings, positive relationship with others, having a goal in life, personal growth and independence were respectively 0.51, 0.76, 0.75, 0.52, 0.73, 0.72 and 0.71 for the whole scale. The quality of life questionnaire has 26 questions and 4 dimensions. Physical  health, Psychological, living environment & Community Relations. Scoring is based on the Likert. Its reliability is reported to be between 0.73 and 0.89 for the whole scale. Life expectancy questionnaire has 12 questions. The Likert Spectrum Scoring Method is 5 options. The questionnaire is designed for people aged 15 and over. The reliability of this scale has been reported between 0.71 and 0.79. Schema Young (short form) has 90 questions. The reliability of this scale, reported 0.96, also for all dimensions was above 0.80. Data analysis was done using SPSS software and multivariate analysis of covariance analysis. The level of significance was set at 0.05.
Findings: The results showed that there was a significant difference in post test between experimental and control groups in hope & quality of life & psychological well-being (p<0.01). The mean and standard deviation of hope of life before and after intervention were 40.36 ± 5.90 and 50.32 ± 3.15; quality of life 81.76 ±8.83 and 93.84 ± 13.36; psychological well-being were 70.92 ± 10.89 and 76.72 ± 7.98. Also, the effect size of hope of life was 0.487
(p = 0.000) and quality of life 0.306 (p = 0.000) and psychological well-being was 0.205
(p = 0.002).
Conclusions: The results showed that schema therapy increased hope & quality of life, and psychological well-being and their components in housewives in the experimental group compared to the control group at the posttest stage. Therefore, interventions based on this approach can be effective in promoting mental health and improving the lives of housewives in District 3 of Tehran.
