Objective: Autistic disorder is a group of issues that affects the multiple aspects of a child's life in the form of disturbances and is one of the most commonly occurring developmental disorders in children. It considered as a rare disorder, but currently it is one of the most common growth disorders among children which appears in early childhood in the form of degradation in the quality of social interaction and stereotypic patterns of behavior, interests, and activities. The stereotypical patterns of behavior interfere in daily activities from play to educational activities. Therefore, stereotypical behaviors should be minimized. This study was designed with two objectives: 1. Awareness of what in the texts are listed for the reduction of stereotypical behaviors for these individuals. 2. Determining the gaps for further research.
Methods: This study is a scoping review. In this study To find the related studies, using the keywords autism and stereotypic behavior electronic databases including Google Scholar, Scopus, PubMed, Otseeker and SID were searched. The study process includes a preliminary search and keyword selection, a search strategy definition, an organized search, an overview of the titles of the articles, an examination of the initial findings and its adaptation to the criteria for entry of the articles to the study using the abstract of the articles, identifying related studies Finally 31 articles, based on the inclusion criteria were selected.
Results: Based on resource reviews, interventions to reduce the stereotypical behavior of individuals with autism is classified into several general categories: drug therapy, behavior therapy, educational methods, physical training, sensory therapies. Medication with Parenting in Pediatric Patients with Pervasive Developmental Disorders has a greater reduction in challenging behavior than the medication alone with low dosage of risperidone. Behavioral treatments and sensory therapies are the most widely used and are the most widely used in people of lesser ages. Exercises that combine physical and mental activity reduce the stereotypical behavior of individuals in autism and improve their cognitive function..
Conclusion: It seems that the choice of intervention to reduce the stereotypical behavior in people with autism is related to the mental age of person, language skills and physical skills. There is no single effective approach to targeting stereotypical behavior for all children or for all stereotypical behaviors. the use of interventions based on sensory integration and sensory processing combined with behavioral intervention will be more effective in reducing the stereotypical behaviors. Physical exercises should also be in accordance with stereotyped behavior biomechanics to create a favorable behavioral benefit. Also Educational planning in the school is better in such a way that physical exercise is performed before activities that require a quiet and immobile sitting, and should also be performed immediately after an intensive training session. On the other hand, dispersing these intense exercises during the day can be effective in reducing stereotypical behavior. Applying these two points is helpful at planning time. It is also worth noting that prior to any change for people with autism spectrum disorder, the progressive declaration of change will result in less stereotypic behavior. It should be noted that moral considerations, especially when applying behavioral therapy, should be considered.
